Players generally spend lots of time researching rackets, reading reviews, and even testing out a racket to make sure they get the best tennis racket they can afford. But few rarely spend the same kind of time in determining what kind of strings to put in their racket. However, tennis racket string is just as important as the racket is to playing good. Gauge is just one aspect that needs to be considered when choosing your string. Gauge refers to the thickness of the string. Currently the most common gauges are 15, 16, 17 and 18. The higher the number, the thinner the string. For each gauge there is a also a “half size” which is referred to as “L”, meaning light gauge. So a 16L gauge tennis string is thinner than a 16 gauge but thicker than a 17 gauge. Thicker strings have more durability but have less resiliency. Players often say the 15 gauge string has a stiffer board-like feel. Some players like that. But combine a stiff racket with a stiff 15 gauge string, and you might feel like …

For the first several years we used the summer week to return to our home resort and exchanged the early autumn week. One of our first exchanges was to Hilton Head Island where we discovered Island Club with a staff of pros and lots of tennis courts where guests could play for free. As avid tennis players, we were thrilled. The resort fronted on a beautiful wide beach that was very remote at the time. We could walk for what seemed like miles in one direction without encountering a soul. At low tide we did not even have to get our feet wet. At higher tides we could scramble across the rocks to continue our journey. We loved the spot so much we decided to make our next purchase directly from the resort without attending a sales meeting. We now owned three weeks which friends at home told us was a big mistake. It wasn’t for us. We had two weeks to use each year and one to trade. And what fun we had trading! The Poconos in Pennsylvania provided scenic painting locations. From photos taken …

Most people associate chronic joint pain with arthritis, but you should always consult your doctor to determine the cause of elbow joint pain. One of the more common causes is bursitis-a painful disease that affects many people each year. Trauma and overuse can leads to bursitis. What Is Bursitis? A bursa is a small sac filled with fluid. When functioning normally, the bursa releases fluid which lubricates the joints and allows them to glide smoothly. When the bursa is injured, the sac no longer releases the fluid and your joints begin to rub against each other, causing friction and pain. Elbow Joint Pain Although you cannot feel it, the elbow bursa is located behind your elbow, over the pointed tip. Bursitis to the elbow is referred to as olecranon (oh-LEK-rah-non) bursitis. This is normally a result of repetitive movement or prolonged, excessive pressure to the area. People who perform repetitive activities, such as tennis players or construction workers, commonly develop this condi …

Wilson Mens 98 Pro Staff Classic Leather Low Tennis Footwear Wilson Men’s ‘98 Pro Staff Classic Leather Low Tennis Footwear A long time favorite of hard-core tennis players renewed for yet another season in soft leather.
Customer Review: THE LONGEST LASTING TENNIS SHOW EVER
After more than 15 years playing tennis, this is undeniably the pair of shoes with the longest lasting sole I have every bought. Over a year of heavy use during the weekends and there is no visible sign of wear yet. Amazing ! Even other brands with “goodyear soles” and whatever don’t come close. The design isn’t the best I’ve seen but to me this is secondary compared to comfort and lasting.
Customer Review: Good Shoe, but the fit has narrowed
I’ve had four pair of the Pro Staff shoes, which I find very comfortable and long lasting. The most recent pair surprised me, however, because they seemed a bit narrower than the previous pairs and are not quite as comfortable.

You will find that no matter what your experience level is with tennis, everyone can win in this low risk form of trading. So just why should you consider trading tennis on Betfair? Well if you look at other forms of sports trading you will notice that the risks associated with them are actually quite high. It can be almost impossible knowing which horse will win a race or whether a football team will win, lose or draw. However in tennis the two players will either win or lose, giving you a fairly high chance of predicting which player is going to lead the match at some stage. In fact, with Betfair trading tennis you often have more than a fifty percent chance of winning because you can bet throughout the match. This is advisable if you are just getting started with tennis trading as it is the most low risk form of trading that you can partake in. By watching the match you get to see how the players are playing on the day and it is then easy to make a bet on who you think will win. No …

Tennis elbow is very common and also very treatable. In the game of tennis, tennis elbow is generally caused when a player uses bad body mechanics or incorrect equipment weight/sizes or a combination of the both. Basically if you play tennis regularly with a racquet that is too heavy for your arm and you strike the ball using incorrect technique you could cause a repetitive stress injury. Technically, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) defines tennis elbow as a degenerative condition of the tendon fibers on the outside of the elbow. These tendons are responsible for anchoring the muscles that extend or lift the wrist and hand. AAOS statistics show that while it occurs mostly in patients aged 30-50 it can and does occur in all age groups. As many as half of athletes in racquet sports (tennis, squash, racquetball) are affected - and there is not usually a specific trauma reported that sets off the symptoms. That means it can sneak up on you before you ever figure out yo …

For those of you who are more comfortable with a hard to pronounce and medical sounding name, it is called lateral epicondylitis. To really get an appreciation of the reasons why an alternative health approach to tennis elbow is a very viable choice, you might consider the way that certain medical conditions are named in Western style medicine. The suffix itis refers to an inflammation. The term epicondyle means a rounded protrusion of bone at the point where tendons and ligaments attach. This would be like the elbow. Therefore, epicondylitis simply means inflammation of the elbow. This points out the Western approach to so many conditions. Even the name of the condition is merely a description of the symptom. Traditional Chinese Medicine is less concerned with the symptoms other than as a diagnostic tool to uncover the true cause of the condition. It is commonly assumed that tennis elbow syndrome is caused by an over use of the elbow. It is not exclusively found in tennis players o …

It covers the four key aspects of tennis that need to be developed to maximize ones improvement. No one area can be ignored as they are all as important as each other and have to integrate if you are looking to become a successful player. The four key aspects are: 1) Physical 2) Psychological 3) Tactical 4) Technical Physical All tennis players should have a strong interest in fitness. At lower levels we are wanting to become fitter, tennis might help us do this. At higher levels we want to improve our fitness above and beyond that required for the game of tennis so we can excel to greater levels. Regardless of your level you will need to condition your body to prevent injury, adapt to the movements required on the court and develop your game. A player will need to perform strength training specific to the muscles used in the game. Weight training for especially the upper body is imperative as it will help you develop more power in your shots. If you look at Agassi for instance he co …

Tennis players use visualization on a daily basis when getting ready for the serve, whilst doing their preliminary routines they are visualizing in their minds where they are going to place the serve. This can be very powerful and should not be overlooked as a help to your serving practice. As an experiment, the Boston Celtic Basketball team split into two sections. One section spent the time practicing their free-throw shots from the line, the other half sat on the bench and in their mind visualized doing the free-throws. They all then took a quantity of free-throws and those who had sat and visualized out scored those who has actually practiced. Imagery is best described as a method of using all the senses to create or re-create an experience in the mind. Imagery can be used to encourage you to see your successful performances - either in a re-run of previous events or successfully performing a new task. It helps you to focus on the key points that contribute to those successes and …

A national hero in Maryland and the United States, he has won 16 Olympic medals. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he broke the 36-year-old record of Mark Spitz with eight gold Olympic medals. From 2004 to 2008, Michael Phelps has won more Olympic gold medals than many countries (including Ireland, Luxembourg, Iceland, Panama, Paraguay, Portugal and Malaysia). Unlike Mark Spitz, Michael did not compete at the Pan American Games. Mike Celizic (sportswriter) wrote :” Phelps has already done things we’ve never seen before and are unlikely to see again. And he’s done it every time he’s left the starting blocks. His 14 gold medals for his career are the record. In Beijing, he won eight gold medals, five of them all by himself and three as a member of two relay teams. He won two of the golds on the same day, and seven medals came with a new world record”. 2. Rafael Nadal (Tennis/ Spain):The 22-year-old is one of the greatest tennis players in history. He became the first Spanish to win the gold …

They may even spend hours playing with a demo racket before purchasing it. Once they find the best tennis racket, many players go for the cheaper string or the string that they had in their old racket. This can be a big mistake. If you used a demo tennis racket, it most likely had the best all around string put in it for that racket. For example, if it was a very stiff racket, chances are it had softer string in it or it might even have had natural gut in it, which is one of the top playing strings. It has been said that the strings are the “heart of the racket” or “the soul of the racket”. This is so true. Your tennis racket string is what gives you the “feel of the racket” or playability. If you put the wrong string in your racket, you will wonder why you ever bought the racket to begin with. Put in the right string, and it will be hard to get you off the court! Of course, the “right” string is different for everyone. It all depends on what the tennis player likes and needs. Some te …
