Wimbledon is adored by tennis fans and former players alike. It is a grand slam tennis tournament alongside the US, French and Australian Open events. Unlike other grand slam tennis tournaments, it is the only event which is played on grass which makes it even more unique. Over the years, there have been plenty of occasions when play has been interrupted due to the weather. The good old English summer always delivers a shower or two at some point during the Wimbledon fortnight. To solve this problem, it was decided to give Centre Court a retractable roof. A state of the art roof for centre court will ensure play can continue on the flagship court at least in the event of bad weather. It could also be used for protection in extremely hot conditions although that is unlikely. The old roof on centre court did not provide a great deal of protection from rain for most spectators who were sat in the stands.
