Both Russian players Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina who are in the fourth and fifth position respectively and whose career breakthrough year has been the present tour have shown incredible determination beating well-known opponents on all surfaces. Dementieva, who is in her mid twenties reached this year a career high raking at the number four position and holds a singles record of 469-232 and she is also a gold medallist holder. On the other hand, there is Dinara Safina who is only twenty-two years and already has eight single WTA titles and four ITF wins to her name. Safina’s best performances have been at this year’s French Open final where she played Ana Ivanovic and at the recent US Open semi final. Then we move to the top three standing where there are the best two female Serbian players Ivanovic, who has already been in the number one position and her partner, Jankovic who has also had a spectacular year as her injuries stop troubling her. Others might be the people who are in the brink of that one win that can change their tennis careers completely. The names do not really have to follow the seedings that have been released for the tournament. Rather, it is a random name recalling for me, of things that can possibly happen. I shall start off with the ladies first. 1. Elena Dementieva - She has vastly improved over the years. I first noticed her during the all Russian French Open tennis final between her and Anastasia Myskina. Dementieva was only 22 years old. But what struck oddly for me was the quality of tennis being played. Both women were so nervous in the match that they committed errorrs after errorrs. Myskina proved to be the better player as she controlled her nerves and finally won the tennis match. I thought Dementieva was a luck finalist at that time and won’t be seeing her that much. But after she won the women’s singles gold in the Olympics, beating Serena Williams in the semis and Dinara Safina in the fin …

The answer really depends on what your tennis goals are. If, for example, you are a young player who wants to play tennis ’seriously’ and gain a national ranking and/or perhaps a college scholarship, I am going to tell you that you need to start with neither your strokes or your footwork. You need to start with physical conditioning. After you have a physical fitness regime in place, you would then - and only then - start with learning proper footwork. Once you have a solid foundation of physical fitness and proper footwork, you can then start working with your coach on the details concerning your racquet, grip size, types of grips used for different strokes that best suit you, and begin the process of grooving your ground strokes. If you are a social player, and play a couple of time a week but still want to improve, I would suggest to you that learning - and applying - proper footwork is definitely where you will see the fastest improvement in your games, hands down. Why? Well, firs …

He may still have some way to go to convince many people that he is as good as some of the fellow greats of the modern era, namely Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg. However, by registering a sixth straight Wimbledon Singles title, Federer would not be short of plaudits for equaling a record that was set in 1886 and has remained since. English player, William Renshaw, is the current holder of the record number of consecutive mens singles titles at Wimbledon but Federer is the favourite to win the mens singles title at Wimbledon 2008 and thus equaling the great achievement set all those years ago. Bjorn Borg was the last player to come close to equaling the record when winning five consecutive mens singles titles between 1976 and 1980 before losing in the 1981 final to John McEnroe. Pete Sampras dominated the title during the 1990’s, winning it a record seven times between 1993 and 2000, however, a surprise defeat in the 1996 Quarter Final to eventual winner Richa …
